An old flame of Mulder's tries to enlist his aid to protect a visiting Parliament member and lights a small spark of jealousy in Scully. Mulder must overcome his fear of fire to take on the hot-headed pyrokinetic serial killer.
[Mulder and Scully are walking back to their car]
Scully: "Oh, I forgot what it was like to spend a day in court."
Mulder: "That's one of the luxuries to hunting down aliens and genetic mutants. You rarely get to press charges."
Scully: "It's open."
Scully: "It's unlocked."
Mulder: "That's weird. I was sure I locked it."
Scully: "Must be an X-File. What's I told you I locked the door."
Scully: "What do you think it is?"
Mulder: "Ten to one you can't dance to it."
Inspector Green: "Oh, come on. Don't tell me you left your sense of humour in Oxford ten years ago."
Mulder: "No, actually, that's one of the few things you didn't drive a stake through."
Mulder: "Dana Scully, this is Phoebe Green. Terror of Scotland Yard."
Inspector Green: "Hello."
Inspector Green: [whispering in Mulder's ear] "She hates me."
Mulder: "What brings you to the colonies?"
Mulder: "We knew each other in school in England. She was brilliant and I got in over my head and I paid the price."
Scully: "Mulder, you just keep unfolding like a flower."
Mulder: "That was over ten years ago, Scully."
Scully: "Yeah, I noticed how you couldn't drop everything fast enough in order to help her out."
Mulder: "I was merely extending her a professional courtesy."
Scully: "Oh, is that what you were extending?"
Scully: "So Sherlock, is the game afoot."
Mulder: "I'm afraid so Watson."
Scully: "So she shows up knowing the power she has over you and then she makes you walk through fire. Is that it?"
Mulder: "Phoebe is fire."
Scully: "Mulder, are you sure you don't want me to help you out on this one?"
Mulder: "Sooner or later a man's got to face his demons."
Cecil L'lvely: "Care for a light?" [His arm is on fire]
Inspector Green: "Unless I'm mistaken, ten years seems sufficient time to have forgiven if not forgotten a few youthful indiscretions."
Mulder: "I'm cursed with a photographic memory."
Inspector Green: "Then don't you tell me that you've forgotten a certain youthful indiscretion... atop Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's tombstone on a misty night in Wendlesham?"
Mulder: "Like I said, just stick to the case."
[Laurence Josserand suggested that
Wendleshamcould actually refer to the famous Rendlesham Forest UFO Incident from 1980. While this makes sense in the light of later episodes, I think it is giving the writers way too much credit when they should be slapped for a lack of fact checking. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's grave is 300km away from Rendlesham Forest at Minstead in the New Forest, his tombstone is in no way conducive to having youthful indiscretions performed atop it and Wendlesham doesn't seem to exist.]
Scully: "Can I meet you somewhere?"
Mulder: "No, it's just that I kind of anticipate having my hands full."
Inspector Green: "Enjoying yourself?" [Mulder has been in the lobby on the lookout for the arsonist]
Mulder: "It's good food, witty conversation, I'm having the time of my life."
Inspector Green: "I wondered if you think it's safe enough to indulge ourselves in a dance?"
Mulder: "Doesn't look like your arsonist is going to make an appearance."
Inspector Green: "That doesn't mean there won't be any fires to put out."
Inspector Green: "Are you going to be okay, Mulder?" [Mulder is heading back into the fire]
Mulder: "Oh yeah, I'll be fine. There's no place I'd rather be."
[Scully enters their office when Mulder has his back to the door and uses Inspector Green's accent]
Scully: "Care to take me to lunch?" [Normal voice] "Scare you?"
Mulder: "You have no idea."
Nurse: "Can I get you anything, sir?"
Cecil L'lvely: "I'm just dying for a cigarette."
