by Red WolfCommerce in London Below was conducted by barter, the exchange of goods and services. If you weren't a merchant, you needed to have a talent to trade on and, as Mr Croup always said, in the fickle world of business it was wise to have a skill that was in demand.
Croup and Vandemar were supremely adept at their chosen vocation.
Admittedly, methods of carrying out their profession had changed over the years, they liked a change as much as the next man, and there was always a call for men who could reliably turn live things into dead things.

I think what I like best about your Croup and Vandemar sketches is how excellently reminiscent of Gaiman your tone becomes. They flow so well that I can see them as part of the original text — via LiveJournal

Thank you. I try and avoid Mr Croup's dialogue for fear of not getting his eloquence right, Mr Vandemar is blunter and easier for me to get a feel for — via LiveJournal
