Toy

Toyby Red Wolf

Giles ran a hand through his hair. "I trust you can explain this."

Andrew had taken a group of junior Slayers on a field exercise and they'd stumbled onto the opening of a portal.

A fight had ensued and the demons were vanquished, but an overenthusiastic kick had broken the ceremonial talisman. Andrew had grabbed the nearest object and intoned a spell to reseat its power.

Unfortunately, the fight had taken place in a toy store and the Amulet of Dhulin was now a Rubik's Cube. Andrew thought Giles would be more appreciative that it had almost been a Slinky.

Fear the most ancient and powerful Amulet... er, Slinky... of Dhulin! ::cracks up:: — LiveJournal — posted by Elizabeth Culmer at 09.09.2007 14:49 AEST | #

On the plus side, there's a good chance of it being overlooked by evil-doers — LiveJournal — posted by Red Wolf at 09.09.2007 14:49 AEST | #

One wonders why more people haven't used that strategy... — LiveJournal — posted by Elizabeth Culmer at 09.09.2007 14:50 AEST | #

Of all the things it could have been...personally, I think Giles should be relieved that the fight hadn't happened amongst Andrew's action figure collection; I shudder to think of the potentially worse possibilities. ::grins::

Still... I also hate to think what would happen if the Amulet in its new form were to be picked up by the blissfully unaware. Given everyone's knack for getting into trouble in this fandom, it wouldn't surprise me if one wrong twist of that thing, and... — LiveJournal — posted by IrishVampire13 at 09.09.2007 14:51 AEST | #

Very shades of Hellraiser. We'll just have to hope a proper ceremony is in order for it to work, rather than idle curiosity — LiveJournal — posted by Red Wolf at 09.09.2007 14:52 AEST | #

I will certainly be keeping my fingers crossed — LiveJournal — posted by IrishVampire13 at 09.09.2007 14:52 AEST | #

Heehee! Great to see these two together! — LiveJournal — posted by Jan at 09.09.2007 14:53 AEST | #

Poor Andrew. Things never go the way for him that they do in the movies. But he did get the job done — LiveJournal — posted by Red Wolf at 09.09.2007 14:54 AEST | #

Well there could have been worse things than a Rubiks Cube... he could have grabbed a rubber ducky, or a Barbie doll! lol. Very amusing — LiveJournal — posted by alwaysjbj at 09.09.2007 14:55 AEST | #

Opening a hell dimension with a My Little Pony would just be embarassing — LiveJournal — posted by Red Wolf at 09.09.2007 14:56 AEST | #

Pardon the sound you may or may not have just heard. Just hysterical laughter at that particular mental image — LiveJournal — posted by IrishVampire13 at 09.09.2007 14:56 AEST | #

Lol good fun, and Andrew always a fun character — LiveJournal — posted by woman_of_ at 09.09.2007 14:57 AEST | #

That he is — LiveJournal — posted by Red Wolf at 09.09.2007 14:58 AEST | #

The muse does tend to run off on tangents, but the trip is usually entertaining — LiveJournal — posted by Red Wolf at 09.09.2007 14:59 AEST | #

I always want to just grab your Andrew and give him the Stooges hair ruffling headlock. Which, of course, means that you've written him perfectly. ::g:: — LiveJournal — posted by Genevieve at 09.09.2007 15:01 AEST | #

I thought it was just me that wanted to that to him. Andrew may want to seek shelter if we mount a joint offensive — LiveJournal — posted by Red Wolf at 09.09.2007 15:02 AEST | #

Definitely. He actually become my favourite character in the last season of Buffy. His little documentary, for example... — LiveJournal — posted by Genevieve at 09.09.2007 15:02 AEST | #

Amulet of Dhulin was now a Rubik's Cube

I think that's a bonus. Ancient occult powers and a super nerd toy. :D I bet Andrew can solve it in less than 2 minutes — LiveJournal — posted by Grandmum at 09.09.2007 15:03 AEST | #

Amulet of Dhulin was now a Rubik's Cube

I think that's a bonuAnd not by pulling it apart either.

I'm just picturing the demons trying to instill a nerd toy with the proper gravitas for a hell dimension opening ceremony and failing. Perhaps Andrew is onto something — LiveJournals. Ancient occult powers and a super nerd toy. :D I bet Andrew can solve it in less than 2 minutes. — LiveJournal — posted by Red Wolf at 09.09.2007 15:04 AEST | #

::hee:: Actually, I should think Giles would appreciate Andrew's quick thinking. :-) — LiveJournal — posted by rayne_y_daze at 09.09.2007 15:08 AEST | #

I'd hope so after the ordeal Andrew went through — LiveJournal — posted by Red Wolf at 09.09.2007 15:09 AEST | #

The thing I really like about your drabbles is they make Andrew likeable. This is great, and very Buffyvanquished and slinky within the same hundred words. Love it — LiveJournal — posted by bluefall at 09.09.2007 15:10 AEST | #

I adore Andrew. He's a geek, but he tries his hardest and is doesn't always work out. But then sometimes it does work out for him in rather unconventional ways, like this time out — LiveJournal — posted by Red Wolf at 09.09.2007 15:11 AEST | #

Now I'm thinking that first the Rubik's cube has to be shifted into the right position in order to work. I can imagine poor Giles having to give lessons in proper cube solving — LiveJournal — posted by a2zmom at 09.09.2007 15:12 AEST | #

I'd kind of hope not. Having a visiting dignitary solving the cube in a fit of boredom and accidentally opening a portal that sucks him into a hell dimension would be a horrible social faux pas — LiveJournal — posted by Red Wolf at 09.09.2007 15:12 AEST | #

hysterical — LiveJournal — posted by cornerofmadness at 09.09.2007 15:13 AEST | #

Great drabble. Makes your mind wonder about what would have happened if it had been another toy — LiveJournal — posted by oldgreymare at 09.09.2007 15:16 AEST | #

GI Joe with Kung Fu action grip? A Nerf gattling gun? A Care Bear? A Barrel of Monkeys? Smile? Silly Putty?

You could go completely silly picking different toys — LiveJournal — posted by Red Wolf at 09.09.2007 15:17 AEST | #

married_n_mich posted a picture of a pink chicken holding a sign. I wouldn't be surprised if it turned out to be something demonic like a portal opening. We'll have to keep an eye out and make sure she doesn't disappear.

Great drabble — you stirred a lot of imaginations with it — LiveJournal — posted by myfeetshowit at 09.09.2007 15:18 AEST | #

Oh dear. I wonder if you can send postcards from hell — LiveJournal — posted by Red Wolf at 09.09.2007 15:19 AEST | #

I'm going to send Spike there soon in a story I'm working on. I'll ask him to give it a try 8p — LiveJournal — posted by myfeetshowit at 09.09.2007 15:19 AEST | #

Nobody will ever unleash that power again — LiveJournal — posted by Mark Hunter at 09.09.2007 15:20 AEST | #

Having your mystical symbol turned into a child's toy, does tend to put a bit of a dampener on things — LiveJournal — posted by Red Wolf at 09.09.2007 15:21 AEST | #

Never underestimate the power of a child's toy; look at how many boys have been fascinated by their sisters' Barbie doll — LiveJournal — posted by Mark Hunter at 09.09.2007 15:21 AEST | #

I guess that depends on the type of fascination involved.

Barbies are detachable and easy to pierce — LiveJournal — posted by Red Wolf at 09.09.2007 15:22 AEST | #

Ah ... detachable and easy to pierce. I must have had a very bland imagination as a boy, because I never considered that. My sister's Barbie did run off with my Johnny West action figure, but they never did anything like having a three-way with GI Joe — LiveJournal — posted by Mark Hunter at 09.09.2007 15:23 AEST | #
