Shadows

Shadowsby Red Wolf

Billy knew there were monsters that lived under his bed and the only thing that protected him was when he was tucked in really tightly at night so the monsters couldn't sneak under the covers. When he tried to explain this to his daddy, he was told to stop being silly. His daddy had taken him by the hand and looked under the bed to show Billy that there was nothing scary under there. Of course there wasn't, that was because the monsters were made of shadows and only came out when it was dark. When Billy's daddy put him to bed that night, he didn't tuck him in tightly enough and the monsters crept under the covers and they ate him.

Yeah, that'll do for morbid — via LiveJournal — posted by Elizabeth Culmer at 15.01.2006 22:18 AEST | #

I like morbid children's stories in general, the sanitised ones miss the point — via LiveJournal — posted by Red Wolf at 15.01.2006 22:24 AEST | #

Oh, I liked morbid and gory stuff as much as the next kid, but I think this would've really gotten to me, because it's so short. Generally one expects a bit more of a lead-in and build-up before the monsters get you. This is like... like cheating, in a way, and everyone knows evil has rules.

At any rate, my personal bed monsters certainly had rules, which I took full and shameless advantage of — though I also fenced myself in with stuffed animals who stood guard while I was sleeping, just in case — via LiveJournal — posted by Elizabeth Culmer at 15.01.2006 22:25 AEST | #

Arrgh! I always knew the monsters on my bed were real! I shan't sleep a wink tonight. ;) — via LiveJournal — posted by Grandmum at 15.01.2006 22:27 AEST | #

The joys of creepy bedtime stories! This one should ensure a sleepness night — via LiveJournal — posted by Red Wolf at 15.01.2006 22:28 AEST | #

I am very glad that I didn't read this when I was a little girl. ::shudders:: Good one! — via LiveJournal — posted by IrishVampire13 at 15.01.2006 22:29 AEST | #

Looks like you missed out on Roald Dahl and Edward Gorey and the original unsanitised Grimms tales then — via LiveJournal — posted by Red Wolf at 15.01.2006 22:30 AEST | #

Dahl and Gorey, yeah (the latter until ten years ago), but I had a book of the original Grimms stories back then. Oddly, they didn't disturb me like... uh... this. ::grins:: — via LiveJournal — posted by IrishVampire13 at 15.01.2006 22:30 AEST | #

You're over. I take back all the nice things I said about you. I hope someone does steal your stories. It seems a fit punishment for false accusers — via FictionPress — posted by IrishVampire13 [aka Bipolar Bimbo] at 15.09.2007 18:46 AEST | #

um not to be rude or anything but that sucks — via FictionPress — posted by anyalm at 15.09.2007 18:50 AEST | #

::Cackles:: That was hilarious! Maybe it wasn't meant to be, but I find unfortunate little kids rather funny...

Keep up the good work; I love reading your morbid stuff. Quite shocking and sometimes very funny. Don't let those flamers get you down! — via FictionPress — posted by EccentricBanshee at 15.09.2007 18:50 AEST | #
