by Red WolfSpike loved a good fight. The feel of his fist striking flesh was a huge adrenaline rush. The dance with an opponent, the risk of not knowing the outcome, of pitting his skills against another. He lived for it.
None of Angelus' nancy-boy terror and torture for him. In all the years he'd run with Angelus, the great poof had never learned that people would say and do anything under the threat of pain.
It was unreliable and as entertainment, frankly, it was boring. Angelus would always win out over his trussed victim. Now where was the fun in that?

I love this. A perfect comparison of the Spike attitude and the Angelus attitude. Great job — via LiveJournal

Many thanks. It wasn't headed in that direction at all, but sometimes it's good to let the muse run free — via LiveJournal

It's why Spike is such an interesting character. He's more real than Angel, who swings from the extremes of torturing people for entertainment to brooding about torturing people for entertainment. It's always black and white with in Angel, where Spike has always been grey — via LiveJournal

That is boring if you know how it's going to end every time. Torture is fun for a while, but then it gets dreadfully repetitive. Not... like... I would know. ;-) — via LiveJournal

That's what I figured too. The outcome is always set in stone, there's no challenge. And Spike has proven himself to be easily bored — via LiveJournal

It was unreliable and as entertainment, frankly, it was boring.
Unreliable in the sense that people don't really mean what they promise while being tortured? I can see that. And he's certainly right about the lack of excitement and rigged odds.
Very accurate to Spike's character! — via LiveJournal — posted by Elizabeth Culmer at 09.06.2004 16:41 AEST |
