i know, i'm being horribly cruel. i cant work out whether i'd be pissed or happy if someone did this to one of my fics. i think pissed. so, i'll do it anyway then. talk about glutton for punishment.
i was looking at it more, and i worked out what i would do. It'd be something like this:

I just absolutely love it ending with that line. You may now maul me.
I'm not at the notepad-coding stage yet, i still need references. And my colleagues are coding in css now, so they need to check in each and every browser every two seconds to see the next error it throws up in non-w3 compliant browsers. yuech. but hey, don't sweat macromedia, they are slaves to adobe now!

The NCSA HTML Primer is old and out of date, but a good starting point for raw coding.

I'm good on html, i just need practice to get to a point where i feel confident without the occassional browser preview. i've not found that dreamweaver really inserts anything crap at all, i write it using html in the code view and just use dreamweaver to preview.
But god, i gotta share this — it's not the worst i've seen but it caused me nightmares today. i'm doing a day's worth of seo work on a site we adopted from another design company (the one i was complaining about in my first post) and god, take a look at the code on this page. wtf?? I don't have enough time to redo the site, so it was driving me mental! The problem with that page is bad use of tables, I would expect it has been auto-generated. The content is using way too many table cells, so when you edit one, it can screw up others. Turn on the table borders to see what you're doing and trim the useless table bits out.
Just wait until you get handed a design by a print designer who has no clue about web and refuses to listen. I had to code this crap little box in the middle of the screen that looks awful on Firefox and apparently breaks on Mac (but we don't know what version OS or browser because the bloody client is too stupid to tell us).

we had great fun in our office last week putting script into a new site we designed so that our primary designer couldn't view the pages on his mac using IE (because god knows why he's using such a rediculous combination and it screws all our sites up). It came up with a rather insulting message instead. :P

Making coffee is about all Dreamweaver is good for. It is a piece of shit. It mangles code. I like my code just as it is without some moronic machine language adjusting it and screwing up layout and functionality.
I am seriously pissed at Macromedia for buying Homesite and doing nothing with it. Best webdev coding software ever. The chief designer here seems baffled that I can happily code sites without Dreamweaver's design view.
