Elvii

Elviiby Red Wolf

Rose looked around her old estate in shock. It looked much the same, but she couldn't believe the people. "When are we?"

"Five years after we met."

"What happened?"

"When Elvis Presley died in 1977, there were 37 Elvis impersonators in the world. By 1993, there were 48,000, an exponential increase. Today, every third person is an Elvis impersonator."

A group of small Elvii ran past them, heading for school.

"You're loving this, aren't you?" Rose glared at the Doctor. "Of all the dodgy statistics examples to actually come true, it had to be this one."

"Thank you very much."

Bwahahah. I can hear his voice rattling off the statistics. ^^; via LiveJournal — posted by Brenda at 29.09.2005 15:54 AEST | #

The stats come from a real report. Be afraid! — via LiveJournal — posted by Red Wolf at 29.09.2005 15:54 AEST | #

::sniggers:: Excellent drabble, and for some reason the word Elvii (if it is a word :P) just cracks me up. Its possible that the sugar rush is to blame but I just cannot stop giggling at this — via LiveJournal — posted by door at 29.09.2005 15:55 AEST | #

Many thanks! Elvii has always been my preferred plural of Elvis, but it is somewhat of a contentious issue — via LiveJournal — posted by Red Wolf at 29.09.2005 15:56 AEST | #

LOL. Very nice.

I second door — Elvii is a very nice word creation. (My brain starts wanting to decline the word :-) ) — via LiveJournal — posted by Elen Ancalima at 29.09.2005 15:57 AEST | #

See, now I'm having flashbacks to a conversation in which we were trying to determine the plural of nouns that end in -is. I think we compared it to the plural forms of certain, er, body parts, and decided that the plural should end in -ides. (Pronounce it Greekish, like Hercules — the e is long.)

Ibis -> ibides
Elvis -> Elvides? XD — via LiveJournal — posted by Brenda at 29.09.2005 15:58 AEST | #

I'm working from a base of octopus — octopii, but there is also the camp that declare it should be Elvum.

Where I come from, plurals of Ibises are generally referred to as those fucking birds. While they are natives, the drought conditions have suited them more than other species and they've taken over a lot of nesting areas used by native water birds and flying foxes. Killing the trees they nest in, isn't helping their cause — via LiveJournal — posted by Red Wolf at 29.09.2005 16:01 AEST | #

I've used Elvii for years, which probably means I've put way too much thought into Elvis impersonators. But am please to have amused you — via LiveJournal — posted by Red Wolf at 29.09.2005 16:02 AEST | #

That's just so scary! ::shudders:: — via LiveJournal — posted by Grandmum at 29.09.2005 16:03 AEST | #

I find it amusing. With the coda that I don't have to live there — via LiveJournal — posted by Red Wolf at 29.09.2005 16:03 AEST | #

LOL yeah!

Apart from the obvious reason, I find it scary to realise that Elvis died so long ago and yet I was already an adult. Arrrrgh! — via LiveJournal — posted by Grandmum at 29.09.2005 16:04 AEST | #

Sorry.

It's never fun to get those reminders. Kind of like being able to say you saw all the Star Wars films at the cinema on a first run. Now if only I can erase the memory of the craptacularness of the prequels... — via LiveJournal — posted by Red Wolf at 29.09.2005 16:05 AEST | #

::falls over laughing:: There is a bit of an overrunning by impersonators. You'd think the original would've been enough — via LiveJournal — posted by IrishVampire13 at 29.09.2005 16:06 AEST | #

There can never be too many Elvis impersonators. Everyone is getting in on the act, even elder gods — via LiveJournal — posted by Red Wolf at 29.09.2005 16:06 AEST | #

::Insert even more hysterical laughter here:: I forgot about that! :D — via LiveJournal — posted by IrishVampire13 at 29.09.2005 16:07 AEST | #

I've always loved the explanation of exponential growth of Elvis impersonators and was quite chuffed to find a use for it — via LiveJournal — posted by Red Wolf at 29.09.2005 16:10 AEST | #

Elvii is a great word. ::giggles:: Great drabble — via LiveJournal — posted by melata at 29.09.2005 16:11 AEST | #

Technically it probably should be a single i, but if I can find a way to wangle using ii, I will. And thank you! — via LiveJournal — posted by Red Wolf at 29.09.2005 16:11 AEST | #

Bwah ha ha ha!

I was chuckling as I read, but that last line pushed me over the each. And now I'm chortling as I head off to bed, but if I dream about Elvis, you are so in trouble — via LiveJournal — posted by Genevieve at 29.09.2005 16:17 AEST | #

But it won't just be one Elvis... it will be many. Still, better than being chased by clowns or mimes — via LiveJournal — posted by Red Wolf at 29.09.2005 16:17 AEST | #

Reading this drabble, I had a flashback to the Austin Powers movies... Mini-Elvis... 1/8 the size, but with his personality & character Traits.... Mind you, are there Young Elvis & Vegas Era Elvis factions, & also is there a underground Costelloite faction, somewhere...? One could postulate a possible war between any or all the above factions... — via A Teaspoon and an Open Mind — posted by Grimley Fieendish at 20.10.2005 19:16 AEST | #

LOL! Thank you, you solved the mystery of the guy who works down the chip shop, who swears his Elvis.. he's an Elvii!! — via fanfiction.net — posted by Ark Led at 20.10.2005 19:18 AEST | #

HAHAHAHAHA. Sorry. Just trying to contain my laughter. Aw, this was great, lol — via fanfiction.net — posted by Uh.yeah at 20.10.2005 19:21 AEST | #

Laughed out loud at that one ... I think it'll give me nightmares, though ... :-) — via fanfiction.net — posted by Mark at 20.10.2005 19:53 AEST | #

::laughs:: Elvii. ::laughs again:: This was a great humorous piece! — via LiveJournal — posted by Chessie at 20.10.2005 19:59 AEST | #

It's a running joke in my family, so it seemed appropriate — via LiveJournal — posted by Red Wolf at 20.10.2005 20:00 AEST | #

Just wait until the civil war between Early & Late Period Elvis factions breaks out...

Also, is there a shadowy group of Elvis Costello impersonators, that are waiting behind the scenes for this event to happen or worse, trying to start the war off, given they are hunted down by Elvis Presleyites, for supporting the False or Anti-Elvis...? — via The Pit of Voles — posted by Grimley Fieendish at 22.10.2005 17:02 AEST | #
