Anachronic

Anachronicby Red Wolf

Spike glanced out the window and froze. "What on Earth are they doing?"

"What?" Dawn didn't look up from her observation post.

"There's a bunch of people in the park waving sticks about in slow motion."

Dawn passed Spike her binoculars. "Tai Chi with walking sticks? Golf practice? Self-defence for seniors? "

"They're waving swords about," Spike snorted in amusement. "I think it's the local chapter of SCA."

Joining Spike, Dawn shook her head. "Idiots. I'd have their legs off before they blinked."

"Maybe their plan of attack is to incapacitate their opponent with hysterical laughter."

"I'd say it's working."

Thanks! I do try to amuse. Or disgust. Sometimes both at once and often unintentionally — via LiveJournal — posted by Red Wolf at 01.10.2007 14:43 AEST | #

I can hear the hysterical laughter swelling in the background — via LiveJournal — posted by Mark Hunter at 01.10.2007 14:44 AEST | #

Much laughter. At least they weren't wearing the armour as well — via LiveJournal — posted by Red Wolf at 01.10.2007 14:44 AEST | #

I'd be wearing the armor. Not against enemies, but to keep from hurting myself. :-( — via LiveJournal — posted by Mark Hunter at 01.10.2007 14:45 AEST | #

::sporfles:: Having once briefly dated a boy deeply mired in a local chapter of the SCA, I'm with Dawn — via LiveJournal — posted by Red Wolf at 01.10.2007 14:45 AEST | #

This drabble is almost verbatim from walking the dogs yesterday morning. The things you see in the park when you don't have a gun.

The SCA do tend to be wacky. Well, the ones I've met are. On the bright side, they do seem overly attached to their armour, will don it for any occasion and seem quite happy to let you shoot them. Admittedly, it was only with 10kg recurve bows and the arrows were fitted with rubber stoppers, but I can still make them hurt — via LiveJournal — posted by Red Wolf at 01.10.2007 14:46 AEST | #

Hee! I'd love to see Dawn take on an Anachronizer — via LiveJournal — posted by spuffyduds at 01.10.2007 14:47 AEST | #

It would be a very brief battle with much girly screaming — via LiveJournal — posted by Red Wolf at 01.10.2007 14:47 AEST | #

They do look rather nutty in person, I have to admit — via LiveJournal — posted by a2zmom at 01.10.2007 14:50 AEST | #

Even when they aren't in full costume — via LiveJournal — posted by Red Wolf at 01.10.2007 14:50 AEST | #

As a fringe member of the SCA, I have to say that most of the fighters DO know what they're doing and have trained very hard at what they do.

All that said though, I still find this kinda funny — via LiveJournal — posted by vampedvixen at 01.10.2007 14:51 AEST | #

Taken from the perspective of people who kill monsters with swords for a living, they would look rather foolish, but they are rather good sports about donning their armour and letting you shoot at them — via LiveJournal — posted by Red Wolf at 01.10.2007 14:52 AEST | #

Why on earth would you expect people to be waving swords in a public place? I really should have taken a photo of the nutballs that inspired this, it would have made an apt icon — via LiveJournal — posted by Red Wolf at 01.10.2007 14:55 AEST | #

::giggles:: i enjoyed that! you made me chuckle. great work :P — via LiveJournal — posted by gets_it_faster at 01.10.2007 14:56 AEST | #
