Security Firms Renewed Subscriptions Without Permission

Security firms Symantec and McAfee have both agreed to pay $375,000 to US authorities after they automatically renewed consumers' subscriptions without their consent. The firms have agreed to settle the case with the New York Attorney General, who says the companies must be more up front about subscription renewals in the future

Well it's 2009 and McAfee is still doing it and not only that, I learned they have been charging renewal fees for every email address I've used with them. I thought they were protecting my computer regardless of which ISP I happened to be using at the time. They auto renewed for each email address I ever used, took the money from my credit card and when I discovered what was going on they claimed they'd notified me by email. Those email addresses were dead so I don't know know how they thought I'd buy that. Would never have found out about it, I guess, except I no longer use the same credit card. So guess what? They went into my checking account which I also never use and caused an overdrawn balance. They said all accounts revert to auto renew 30 days before the license expires and it was in the small print. Ha. The wouldn't even apologize or refund the bogus charges. I am furious!
